Google AI Search Mode Now Live in India
On June 24, 2025, Google officially rolled out its AI Search Mode in India, marking the first international expansion of its most advanced search experience. Announced originally at Google I/O 2025, AI Mode promises to transform how users find and interact with information online.
This new feature, powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.5, is designed to handle complex, multi-layered queries with greater accuracy and depth. By offering AI-generated summaries, interactive prompts, and rich multimedia support, Google aims to deliver a more intuitive search journey.
AI Mode is an experimental setting within Google Search that leverages large language models and multimodal AI to interpret user intent with advanced reasoning. Instead of returning a list of links, it provides a concise, conversational summary that answers nuanced questions in one go.
According to Business Standard (June 24, 2025), AI Mode breaks queries into subtopics and executes multiple fan-out searches simultaneously. This lets Google retrieve the most relevant data points—whether they’re text, images, or voice snippets—and package them into a single response.
These capabilities make AI Mode a powerful tool for both quick lookups and deep dives into specialized topics.
At its core, AI Mode uses a bespoke iteration of Google’s Gemini 2.5 model. This architecture combines natural language understanding, multimodal fusion, and retrieval-augmented generation to produce accurate and contextually relevant answers.
Google’s query fan-out technique breaks large questions into discrete subqueries, running them in parallel across its index. The AI then synthesizes the results, ranks the best snippets, and composes a coherent narrative—all in real time.
Unlike traditional search, AI Mode handles multiple input types seamlessly. Users can snap a photo of a plant leaf, ask “How do I care for this plant?”, and AI Mode will identify the species, list care instructions, and even recommend local nurseries.
Voice search has also been enhanced. Speak your question naturally—“What are the top-rated eco-friendly hotels in Goa?”—and AI Mode responds with a list of vetted options, complete with ratings, pricing tiers, and booking links.
Initially launched as an experiment via Search Labs, AI Mode is now broadly available to English-language users in India on mobile and desktop. To enable it, simply open the Google app or visit labs.google.com/search and try the AI Mode.
Google plans to expand to other Indian languages by late 2025. Early feedback suggests high engagement among tech enthusiasts and professionals seeking deeper search insights.
Planning a multi-city trip? AI Mode can draft detailed itineraries, suggest attractions based on personal interests, and estimate budgets instantly. Compare smartphone specs side by side or ask for step-by-step DIY repair tips for home improvement projects.
Students and researchers benefit from auto-generated bibliographies, summaries of academic papers, and quick explanations of complex theories. Small business owners can request marketing strategy outlines, SEO checklists, and social media content calendars.
For Indian consumers, AI Mode reduces search friction, saving time on tasks like recipe discovery, local service comparisons, and educational queries. It also ensures more accurate regional context, such as local pricing and availability.
Businesses can leverage AI Mode to optimize their online presence. By structuring content to align with AI-generated summaries and using schema markup, companies increase their chances of appearing in these concise, high-visibility results.
Google emphasizes that AI Mode follows the same privacy policies as standard Search. User queries may be logged for model improvement, but personally identifiable information is anonymized. All data handling complies with India’s PDP Bill guidelines.
Users can opt out of data sharing within Search Labs settings, and Google provides clear controls for managing search history, voice recordings, and image uploads.
Bing’s AI Chat and DuckDuckGo’s privacy-focused generative answers also offer AI-driven summaries, but Google’s advantage lies in its scale, index depth, and Gemini’s advanced reasoning capabilities.
While Bing integrates ChatGPT-style chats, Google AI Mode outperforms in multimodal fusion and contextual link generation. DuckDuckGo excels in privacy but has a smaller index and lacks image analysis features.
Google plans to roll out AI Mode support for Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and other major Indian languages by Q4 2025. Enhanced local business integration and offline AI assistance are slated for early 2026.
Further updates may introduce domain-specific models for healthcare, legal, and financial queries, offering certified insights from credentialed experts.
Google AI Search Mode represents a significant leap forward in how Indians discover and interact with information online. By combining Gemini’s power with rich multimodal support, it delivers faster, more accurate, and deeply contextual answers.
Ready to experience smarter search? Enable AI Mode today and unlock the future of information discovery.
